Italchimica's fifth Sustainability Report published

Italchimica presented the fifth edition of its Sustainability Report, drafted according to the criteria of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to transparently present its performance and improvement objectives on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.

In the publication, water, emissions, energy, raw materials, packaging, employee welfare are discussed, i.e. all topics that are dear to the stakeholders and identified through the materiality analysis.

Actions taken and results achieved are also presented. For example, with regard to people’s wellbeing, the report tells how 34.19 per cent of the added value produced by the company in 2023 was distributed in line with ethical principles and was therefore allocated to staff, through salaries, social security contributions, severance pay and bonuses.

Many innovations for the environment are described in the publication. These include the introduction of a line dedicated to the Refill Box, a packaging mainly made of cellulose for soap refills, and the process innovation that led to 97 per cent reuse of waste in the production of polyethylene bottles.

A strategic resource for Italchimica is water, which the company protects through various actions: for example, by increasing concentrated detergent formulations from 75 to 80 per cent by 2025 and through the recovery of 31 per cent of washing water.

In 2023, the time frame of the report, the implementation of a process Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) according to ISO 14064 was also started, with the aim of calculating emissions and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
